
The delegations of the 2nd meeting of AIPA Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs (AIPACODD) took a field visit for the Alternative Development (AD) in addressing illicit drug crop cultivation at the Royal Agricultural Station Inthanon, Chiang Mai Province.
On Wednesday 13 March 2019 at 10.45 hrs., at Bann Muang Ang, Jomthong District, Chiang Mai Province, Miss Jintanant Chaya Subhamitr, a member of the Thai National Legislative Assembly (NLA), led a group consisting of representatives from 10 AIPA member parliaments, representatives from international organizations, members of the NLA, and executives from the Secretariats of the House of Representatives and of the Senate, took a field visit for the Alternative Development (AD) in addressing illicit drug crop cultivation and they had been presented with organic farming and had a chance to discuss with hill tribe farmers. In this regards, Mr. Vijit Thanomtin, a representative of the Royal Agricultural Station Inthanon gave a welcome statement and information of the station to the delegates.
At 13.00 hrs., at the Royal Agricultural Station Inthanon, ACM Chuchart Boonchai, a member of the National Legislative Assembly, led the group to the luncheon hosted by Mr. Supachai Iamsuwan, the Governor of Chiang Mai Province.
At 14.00 hrs., the delegations took a visit to Khun Huai Haeng Research Institutesub-station of the Royal Agricultural Station Inthanonwhere it conducts research on ornamental plants, temperate fruits, subtropical fruits, and field crops. At the same place, they also visited a flower sorting and packing station where flowers are kept and packaged before delivering to markets. All these aim to present to all delegates the implementation of AD in Thailand in an attempt to sustainably and concretely reduce illicit drug crop cultivation, as well as the transformation of the area into a destination for agro-tourism for people to visit and learn more about highland agriculture.
